AMPS Power Platform Modernisation

2022–2023 · Power Platform Architect

Problem

AMPS, a legacy business process management system behind Adidas's global retail operations, had become expensive to run and slow to change. It needed re-platforming onto Microsoft Power Platform so business teams could iterate without the overhead.

Approach

Led end-to-end architecture and delivery of the AMPS modernisation: ALM Accelerator implementation, environment strategy, solution segmentation, and developer enablement across distributed teams.

Outcome

Re-platformed AMPS onto Power Platform with full ALM discipline. Manufacturing throughput increased by approximately 25%, with documented savings exceeding hundreds of thousands of dollars annually (Keric Shanahan, Kforce, 2025). *

"The new platform's enhanced performance capabilities increased overall manufacturing throughput by approximately 25%, directly impacting revenue generation."

AMPS was Adidas’s primary business process management system for global retail operations, built on aging technology that took significant manual effort just to keep running, let alone extend. Business teams couldn’t iterate at the pace the operation demanded. The platform had shifted from enabler to liability.

The engagement covered the full re-platforming. Domain analysis to identify solution boundaries. Environment strategy across dev, test, UAT, and production. ALM Accelerator implementation to enforce deployment discipline through Azure DevOps pipelines. Hands-on solution architecture across Power Apps and Power Automate. And because development teams were spread across time zones, a governance and enablement model that could hold delivery quality without funnelling every decision through a central gate.

ALM Accelerator was the pivotal architectural choice. It imposed pipeline-enforced promotion gates, ended direct environment editing, and left Adidas with a repeatable deployment model the organisation could own after the engagement closed. Developer enablement sessions made sure the internal team could maintain and extend the solution on their own.

The results above (the throughput gain and the annual savings) were corroborated independently by Keric Shanahan, Service Delivery Director at Kforce.
